Pambarpuram Village Forest Council

Empowering Communities, Preserving Biodiversity

About Pambarpuram VFC

The Pambarpuram Village Forest Council (VFC) was established in 2013 under the Joint Forest Management program and is registered under Tamil Nadu Registration of Societies Act. It is a grassroots body in the Kodaikanal forest division consisting of members from local community, with the local Forest Range Officer serving as the Member-Secretary. The council is part of a Tamil Nadu Forest Department initiative that involves residents of forest fringe villages in protecting local flora and fauna. This initiative successfully balances conservation with the livelihood needs of the community by providing regulated monetary and community-oriented benefits. It also empowers local people and marginalized groups by creating sustainable livelihood opportunities.

Today, the Pambarpuram VFC manages an ecotourism facility that handles more than 5 lakh tourist visitors annually inside the Kodaikanal Wildlife Sanctuary.
